Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated in the first full week of May since the first proclamation from President Reagan in 1985. This year it’s May 4-10, 2025 — a great time to renew your oath.

A typical federal oath of office or enlistment includes a promise to:

  • Support and defend the Constitution, against all enemies, foreign and domestic

  • Bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution

  • Well and faithfully discharge the duties of your office

Some people renew their vows, we renew our oaths! It’s a way to deepen our commitment. Since the Oath Act in 1789 became the very first law passed by Congress, millions of public servants — military, elected officials, civil service, foreign service, judges, state/local/tribal officials — we have made an enduring promise to support the Constitution.
